Sincera: Cursed and proud

04/01/12  ||  Smalley

“We’re here! We’re cursed/proud! Get used to it!”? Nah, not really; When I heard a description of Norway’s Sincera as being melodic black metal, my little Viking got somewhat excited at the possibility of hearing some Dissection and/or Sacramentum-influenced metal (at least if it was influenced by their early records), but C&P ultimately fails through a prominent lack of songwriting energy & catchiness. But, besides that, this is a weird case for a debut album; half of it is boring studio stuff, and the the other half are pretty fun live recordings with a high-energy frontman screaming, but the live shit is still ruined by the shitty, buzzy, underground tradetape quality of the recordings. Srsly, you guys decided to put these live songs on your own album, sounding like this??

Anyway, as for the in-studio material, things just kind of… drone here. You need more hooks, people! Some of faster parts kinda stick out in a good way (especially the intro on track #2), but there isn’t nearly enough of those highlights to make this worth remembering. The final bonus track is kind of enjoyable, but still, besides that… don’t bother remembering this pieced-together Frankenstein.

5.5/10: Disappointment in this one makes Smalley sad panda.
